TodayArhur Hall Smith retired from George Washington University in 1997. He was sent off with a number of complimentary speeches. The most moving was delivered by Lillien Robinson, Professor of Art History at GWU. In her remarks at his retirement, she took special note of his skills as an artist, teacher and friend. Specifically, she cites his willingness to challenge all those around him, student and colleague alike, to fulfill their potentials and responsibilities. |

| While I have not been lucky enough yet to know Arthur Hall Smith, I can definitely attest to the great love GWU still has for this well-respected artist and teacher. Every person I have spoken to has been so excited to know that efforts are being made to commemorate the impact Smith left on this University and the art world at large. | ||||||||||||||||||
| In 1946, an article noted that Smith was looking forward to his future" as a time to 'just exist in a Paris garrett,' as many artists inevitably do!" He seems to be fulfilling this dream as he is currently living and creating in Paris. | ||||||||||||||||||
